Beyond Boundaries

Exploring Identity

Beyond Boundaries is a 56-page editorial catalogue exploring how interiors convey identity through texture, color, and rhythm. Instead of isolating designers into separate chapters, the publication flows as a continuous narrative, weaving together the work of India Mahdavi, Kelly Wearstler, Vincent Darré, Dimore Studio, and Jonathan Adler. The result is an editorial rhythm that balances clarity with subtle variation, shifting tone as the reader moves forward.

Designing Continuity

The design approach centered on maintaining a clean, structured layout that feels editorial in tone but avoids excessive stylization. A six-column grid provided the underlying system, offering enough flexibility to adapt each spread while keeping the overall rhythm consistent. The result is a reading experience that feels guided and intentional, where variation arises naturally from content rather than imposed decoration.

Typography and imagery were developed as complementary forces within the system. A neutral sans serif, paired with Neue Machina, creates a typographic voice that is both sharp and restrained—angular enough to carry edge while still softening against the interior photography. The 12pt baseline grid locks type and visuals into alignment, producing a rhythm that is deliberate but never rigid. Photographs were scaled according to impact: some spreads allow imagery to dominate while others recede into more measured layouts, giving the publication both contrast and breath.
